the first dinner I made: cheese and potato bake

My mom bought a new book for me today. It shows me how to cook. Today me and my sister cooked Cheese and Potato Bake. The recipe for cheese and potato bake is below. I love this recipe. I picked this recipe because it looked good and simple, and we have all the right ingredients.

I made this recipe with my sister. First what you have to do is set the oven to 350 farenheit. Then you peel potatoes and put them in a bowl of water. You have to slice an onion. I sliced the onions (finally my mom let me use the knife!). Melt butter in a pan and cook the onion until slightly soft. Grate cheese. Butter a baking dish and spread a layer of potatoes. Then onions. Add salt and pepper and sprinkle with cheese. Continue layering, finishing with potatoes. Beat an egg into cream and pour it over the potatoes, and sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top. Bake for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Then test with a knife to see if they cooked all the way through.

Here is a picture of the potatoes in the oven. It's gonna be goooooood! I thought it was really fun making it! Too bad my Dad can't have it, because he's in Atlanta. He's coming back in about a week. I miss him.

  8. Well done Hope. I'm sorry that I have only just noticed that you are following in your mom's footsteps with your own blog. Congratulations! I will look forward to following along and seeing what all new things you learn, along with another perspective on your family's farm.

By the way, one of my sister's middle names is Hope. It was my grandmother's maiden name too. Such an uplifting name.
